On Building Value, Personal Development

As a Product manager, I am always surrounded by software things. If I am not testing one product, I am creating user flows for another, running data research for one feature, or having meetings with stakeholders & teams. There is always something to do. Always.

But, there are days when I feel a disconnect with work. On those days, I try to awaken something, I over-speculate, and gravitate (trying to sound motivational), LOL. To be serious now, on the days I have this disconnect no matter what I try to do or how much I try to make something of it, it worketh not. My first go-to would be to mutter a small prayer because what is life without the Holy Spirit? Then when I hear the word rest, I start to run away. Yogi, why are you running?

Rest for who? Ha!

Rest? Rest where? Who will do the 1 billion tasks I have outlined and waiting for me? I resteth not.

Brethren, my body would then teach me stringent lessons on those days ensuring that I understand why I have a disconnect. When I speak to man, yes Sah! I have man. Oluwa oh! Anyhoo, when I speak to man about my disconnect, he finds a soft way to deceive me into taking a break and doing some of my other favourite things like watch an anime or go cook something (Boy do I like to try out new recipes), or sleep.

Not once, not once has resting not saved me from my un-working days. But will I hear word? Nooooooooooo!

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!! N to the O!

I sha think I want to prioritise rest this 2024 (laughs in self deceit). What I need you to know is, there will be days your work worketh not, make it simple for you by:

  • Resting
  • Eating
  • Doing one thing you really like
  • Playing a game
  • Hanging out with a friend or colleague

Just go do something that feels normal to you, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find the thread to connect you back to your work mojo. Also, don’t be like me (winks) Rest because, because you need to.

Thank you for reading.
